2010 EXPERIENCE SCWA…. “STARTS YEAR IN BIG WAY”
EXPERIENCE SCWA, the 2010 Southwest Car Wash Association Convention & EXPO, included three
strong days of Industry Innovations – Business Solutions and Unparalleled Hospitality. The success of the
event was described by an exhibitor “SCWA always starts my year in a big way”.
“As we begin a new decade in the car wash industry, the SCWA 2010 Convention & EXPO focused on making
the most from every opportunity we are given. SCWA wants to be on the leading edge of what is happening in
the car wash industry and to provide our members with the most relevant information and resources available. This was the goal of our convention and based on the comments received, our goal was achieved”, according to
SCWA President Charlie Gates. Gates joined more than 1200 car wash owners and exhibitors attending the
Southwest Car Wash Association 2010 Convention & Exhibition held at the Arlington Convention Center and
Sheraton Hotel in Arlington, Texas.
The convention started with the much anticipated CEO Forum. Bruce Arnett, Jr., Mr. Clean Car Washes
discussed his perspective on what car wash owners may expect in the coming decade. In addition, Arnett
presented information on the new Proctor & Gamble car wash franchise program of which Mr. Clean Car Wash
is the first. One convention attendee noted, “the CEO Forum provides information and insights that I do not
find elsewhere. It is a stimulating way to start a convention”.
Buddy Roemer, former Louisiana Governor continued the excitement with his Keynote Address highlighting
the current political and economic dynamics impacting the car wash business today. Roemer pointed out that
the current federal government spending can not be sustained and will only have a negative affect on small
business.
Doug Cookston, with Cityview and Jerry’s Express based in Fort Worth, Texas, was installed as the 2010-2011
SCWA President. According to Cookston, “I am excited and proud to be a part of this dynamic organization. My goal this year is to build on the successes of the past as well as establish new goals that benefit our car wash
members. As a member-driven organization, we will focus on new ideas to help our members achieve greater
success in their day to day car wash operations”.
The Annual Awards Banquet honored 2010 SELF-SERVE/AUTOMATIC CAR WASH of the Year, Lindale
Car Care, Lindale, Texas; 2010 CONVEYOR/EXTERIOR of the Year, Car Wash Barn, Temple, Texas;
2010 SCWA COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD, Lance Tyler, Auto Splash, Frisco, Texas.
The Southwest Car Wash Association includes more than 1300 members and is committed to supporting car
